Falling down in confession booths.
Another soul perverts the truth.
“God where are you? I’m in pain
I’m a liar. I’m ashamed.”

Barely standing and a heart of gold
Another soul professes his faith.
“It’s been a long time but i’m finally back.
This prodigal son seeks a fattened calf.”

Light a candle and grab a hymnal,
Pray a prayer of drunken denial.
Passing out with an ugly whining
Our favorite burner knocks over his offering.

“Where have you been? Life’s in shambles.
I walk here to pray and drink of mercy.
Instead I'm met with grief, prayer candles,
Empty church, and empty bottles.”
